People need to know what happened to a little brown dog named Charlotte, they killed her. A little brown dog named Charlotte nevergot a chance at life, like so many others at the shelter. She came in skin and bones, was her abuse ever investigated, not likely, and why wasn't it? Barbara the butcher just said Charlotte was starving herself, excuse me but dogs do not starve themselves. Alot she knows about animals! The volunteers gave Charlotte extra food on their own to help her, and she was vastly improving. She was gaining weight and looking much better. She then was fostered by Ellen Perry Ass,and was said to have not gotten along with her dogs. There were others who would have fostered her, and perhaps she just needed a home where she was the only dog, not a difficult fix. Nevertheless she was killed on 12/1, by the direction of Dr. Heartless. How many animals have to die, before he is ousted? Let me remind him, that if it wasn't for the animals he wouldn't be collecting his six-figure salary that he doesn't earn or deserve. Let me say, I am not a volunteer, but I am well aware of what goes on out there, and it is not a pretty picture. Not only does the the director enjoy inflicting pain to animals, he also enjoys doing it to humans. He will let the volunteers get a little attached to animals in need, and then he will kill them to inflict pain on them. He is a very sick individual, and his days are numbered out there, not soon enough! This posting is in honor of a little brown dog who won people's hearts and didn't make it, because of the shelter's very evil director. MAY SHE REST IN PEACE

Charlotte's reason for being killed? Call the office at the Pound and they will tell you it was "medical". If you listened to the Dave Congalton Radio Show on the 14th, a volunteer from the Pound was there. She was the same one who was fostering Charlotte on November 30th. She said so on the radio show KVEC in SLO Town that day. However Charlotte was killed on December 1st. This volunteer took about 5 minutes of beating around the bush and said that she was agressive with her dogs. Charlotte was killed for temperament. So why didn't others standing in line to foster Charlotte get called. How irresponsible and unsensitive and law breaking can you get - kill an animal and not know why. This is a sick world.

Although Charlotte's death is heartbreaking, I have to ask a question here. Would you want to adopt a dog that was aggressive to other dogs? What about taking this dog out for walks where you might run into other dogs? What if this dog were to escape? Is it right to know a dog is dog or people aggressive and put others in danger? If funds were available to provide rehab that might be a different story but this is not usually the case. I would be very upset if I had to live next door to a dog aggressive dog because it would worry me that it would come over into my yard and hurt or kill my pets.

This reply is to "One Who Knows", but doesn't really know what the problem is. It doesn't matter whether Charlotte was aggressive or not, and I don't think she was. The problem is all the lies and deceit at the shelter by it's director, Eric Anderson. And Ellen Perry Ass, who is one of his stooges, thinks everything at the shelter is wonderful, and she alone is going to save the day! She has just as much heart and compassion as he does -ZIPPO. Don't get me going on the subject, but more will follow, I am the voice of the animals, and they need all the help they can get. Before you post, get the facts straight next time.

I got the "facts" from what was posted about Charlotte being returned by her foster for "not getting along with her dogs" and the statement that she was killed because of temperament. I was not defending the management and do sympathize with you about it. I was just trying to point out that if Charlotte was indeed dog aggressive, then it is wrong to put others in danger to save one. That mistake is made much too often. We can't save some only to put others in danger. It does sound, from your postings, that there is a severe problem at the San Luis Obispo shelter and if I could help, I would. But I don't live in the area and the powers that be only listen to the residents that vote. You can attend their meetings and present these problems at a public forum. Stand there long enough and you can solicit others to join in your fight. Just make sure your facts are true or they can make a fool of you so as to turn voters off to what you have to say. Voters do have power if they chose to use it properly. Develop a relationship with your County supervisor or your City Council member. They do take appointment requests from their public, you might not meet directly with them but talking with their reps is the same as talking with them. Solicit a sympathic newspaper reporter by sending constant info on what you know. Send the same to your elected officials, every day if you have to. Good luck.

Reply to One Who Knows. I am sorry that I came across harshly with you, but I am very frustrated with what is going on at the shelter here. I wish you did live here, maybe you could help the situation. It is totally against my nature to understand how anyone could be so cruel to a poor defenceless animal, especially knowing that the director of the shelter is a vet. It is mind boggling. Keep posting, your input is good.

If nothing else file a claim against the city for emotional damage over the death of Charlotte, or if it is the county do the same. At least someone higher up will have to read it, it will be turned down, of course. Work on a reporter by sending any and all info you can collect but identify speculation as such and not as fact. Send the info to your Supervisor or Council member. But public forum is a strong arm for us and we need to use it more.
